Baggies takeover nearer

The prospect of a takeover at West Bromwich Albion has grown nearer after interested parties from the Far East and the United States entered due diligence. Given that the club showed a good profit in its last financial year, there shouldn’t be any skeletons in the cupboard to hold things up.

It is hoped to complete any deal by mid-July so that summer transfer deals are not hampered. The likely price is around £150m which would represent a big profit for chairman Jeremy Peace who owns 77 per cent of the shares. It’s a smart man who buys a football club and comes out with a bigger fortune, not a smaller one.

The Far Eastern buyers are thought to be from China and have also shown an interest in Aston Villa.
