Many wealthy Russian expatriates will be deemed domiciled in the UK for tax purposes when long-term non-dom status is abolished next April, leading to an exodus to the United States.  Abramovich is not a non-dom because he has never applied for UK citizenship and Moscow remains his main residence. Nevertheles, his family are spending more time in the US where he is creating a new mansion in New York from three town houses.

There are known to be Chinese buyers interested in Chelsea.   Such a purchase would be a jewel in the crown for China as it seeks to take a leading role in world football.    However, Chelsea insist that Abramovich is committed to the club and he can follow its fortunes from any of his homes or his yacht.
