Debts overwhelm new Hereford owner

The size of the debts at Hereford United are over four times what new owner and property developer Tommy Agombar thought they were, £1.3m against £300,000.   Agombar was ambushed by fans coming out of a meeting and his comments about not being Roman Abramovich suggested that he may think that he has bitten off more than he can chew.

BBC Television news for the Midlands last night featured a group of local businessmen who felt they should be given the chance to take over the lease from the council and claimed to have a ‘sustainable business plan’.   However, those have been difficult to implement at Edgar Street with a mismatch between the ambition of the club and the level of local support.

In the meanwhile no season tickets are being sold, no one seems to have any concrete information and there are doubts about whether the club can even get into the Southern Premier League.   A poll of fans by the Hereford Times suggests that their favoured solution is the formation of a phoenix club as Hereford City.
