FA hits sponsorship problems

The Football Association, which has never fully recovered from the collapse of Setanta, has hit new sponsorship problems.   Admittedly, National Express is a second tier sponsor and parts of the deal may yet be salvaged.  However, they did not think that the deal represented good value for money, although there had been a change of personnel at the top of the firm since the original agreement was signed.

However, the FA has to find a sponsor for the FA Cup after E-ON pulled out.  For all the attention produced by the advancement of Portsmouth and Millwall in the past, the competition has difficulty competing with the excitement generated by the race for Champions League places or by the European competition itself.   As far as the national team sponsorship is concerned, which runs out in Augujst, talks with Nationwide have stalled with a £20m offer on the table.
