Top of the pile among footballers is Wayne Rooney with £82m, a figure that goes up to £96m when his wife’s riches are taken into account.  Rooney is paid £300,000 a week by Manchester United and has endorsement deals with Nike and Samsung.   His wife has a contract with Littlewoods and also has income from television work.

Second in line and worth £34m is Gareth Bale who also earns £300,000 a week at Real Madrid and has lucrative endorsement deals with Sony, Adidas and Electronic Arts.   Not far behind on £33m is Sergio Aguero who earns £150,000 a week, rising to £200,000 with bonuses.   He has deals with Puma and Pepsi.
