Gloucester City AFC get eviction warning

Gloucester City AFC have been told by Cheltenham Town to pay £20,000 they owe in rent and other expenses or they will be evicted from their ground share at Whaddon Road by the end of the month.

The club are thought to owe three months’ rent.   They have had difficulty in attracting more than a few hundred to midweek games.   As the most southerly football club in the Blue Square North they also face long away trips such as the 500-mile round trip to Workington in Cumbria last Saturday.

The club are thought to owe three months’ rent.   They have had difficulty in attracting more than a few hundred to midweek games.   As the most southerly football club in the Blue Square North they also face long away trips such as the 500-mile round trip to Workington in Cumbria last Saturday.

The Tigers were flooded out of their ground in 2007 and have been playing outside the city ever since, formerly at Forest Green and then Cirencester. They have ambitious plans for a new £5m stadium at Meadow Park, although these have been scaled down.   £200,000 has already been spent on the plans for this before any work has taken place.

The Supporters’ Trust have called on Gloucester City Council to help the football club get back to the city, but their funds are limited in an era of austerity.
