Greek football beset by problems

The progress of Greece to the quarter finals of the Euros has given the country a much needed morale boost, while the match against Germany offers a chance of sweet revenge for the financial humiliations perceived to have been heaped on the country.

However, Greek domestic football faces serious financial challenges which were evident long before the current crisis.   Dominated by a clash between three clubs, there have been match fixing scandals while attendances have dwindled.   Clubs are highly leveraged and face cash flow and other financial problems.
