Liverpool need new stadium

Liverpool FC need a new stadium if they are to continue to compete at the top level of British and European football argues The Times football editor Tony Evans.

He states, ‘After another week of crisis on Merseyside, no one can say for sure in which direction the club are heading.  17 months after its takeover, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owner, [have] not come up with a strategy to build a new stadium.’

Evans continues, ‘Liverpool fans should not kid themselves.   This is an indication of how far the club have fallen behind.   They cannot compete without a new ground.’

‘This calls into question the role of FSG.  John W. Henry and his team have not imposed themselves at Anfield.  They have not invested the sort of money that was needed to repair the damage of the Gillett and Hicks years.’
