Sainsbury’s save Shrimpers

Southend United FC have been given another seven days by the High Court to pay £400,000 they owe the taxman.  Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s settled a £2.1m bill last November and they have £400,000 waiting in an account to pay this bill subject  to the completion of negotiations on a joint project to build a retail park and stadium at Fossetts Farm.   It will be Southend’s third ground as they originally played at the Kursaal amusement park.
