Truro City given deadline
Truro City FC have been given until 5 p.m. on Thursday to satisfy the Conference that they can see out the season or they will be removed from the Blue Square South. The club has asked that the criteria be kept confidential for reasons of commercial sensitivity. City's players have not been paid for several weeks.
The club's administrator remains hopeful that a buyer wlill step forward to save the club. However, it has to be asked how attractive a prospect they are to an investor.
On the face of it, it should be possible for a county the size of Cornwall to support a Conference side. However, many of the retired population in the county have allegiances elsewhere. Among the native population, there is a strong rugby tradition.
Travelling costs are also a problem. Falmouth Town were once a strong force in the Western League, but had to revert to the South-Western League because of the costs involved. An away trip for Truro can cost £800 or more in expenses.
